Sydney's First Snow
We got about 5 inches of snow at our house yesterday-- so fun!! Sydney & I had pajama day on Friday and watched the snow falling from inside all day, but today we had to get her out and show her what it was all about. She was definitely not a fan of all the layers of clothes we put on her! She was warm, though, and I'm glad we got some pictures of it.

10 Weeks Already?!?
Seriously?? Is it possible that Sydney is already 10 weeks old? I can hardly believe it! She's getting to be so much fun! She smiles all the time- except right after she wakes up, when she's very serious and thoughtful- and she's been trying to laugh, which is hilarious. She squints her eyes and opens her mouth wide, but nothing comes out. Poor thing- she's so close! At least it doesn't seem to bother her that she hasn't found her voice yet, she's quite content pretending she's laughing. And today, I really thought it sounded like she was laughing in her sleep while we strolled through Target.
Ok- fully intended to write a lot more, but someone is waking up and I need to just post this because if I leave it for later it may not get done. Check out our big girl!!

Not So Wordless
Sorry, I think I forgot to post a picture last Wednesday, and I definitely didn't post a 9-week picture yesterday... I've had too much going on! Much to Sydney's Nana's dismay, I'm not spending a lot of time online uploading pictures. I can't help it- we're having too much fun to stop for the computer!
Sydney & Rob had some quality father-daughter bonding time last night while I went out with some girlfriends. The Melting Pot (a fondue restaurant) hosted a "27 Dresses"-themed girls' night out event. While Rob taught Syd about the fine art of grilling steaks, I put on a bridesmaid dress for our dinner out! Sydney almost got to come with me- we even had a party dress for her to wear- but I'm glad she got to spend that time with her daddy.
This morning, I found myself on the Mom side of a parent/babysitter chat. Weird! I had to go take care of something at Rob's office so I called my friend Jennifer to see if she could hang out with Sydney. When I asked her if she was free, she asked "Do I GET to babysit?" I'm thankful for friends who are so eager to help! I had no doubt that Sydney was in good hands (Jennifer has raised two girls of her own), but I still found myself chomping at the bit to get home the whole time I was gone. She said that Syd gave her a funny look when she woke up from her morning nap and found her here; fortunately she got over it quickly and they had a good time. Poor Sydney wasn't feeling very good, though, and was a little bit fussy by the time I got home. (I don't think Jennifer minded holding her when she realized that would help comfort her) About 30 minutes after I got home I found the source of Sydney's discomfort in her diaper. Poor baby was having tummy issues! I'm a little concerned that the may be having a reaction to the Rotavirus vaccine that she got on Monday... we'll have to see how long this lasts I guess.
Ok, I think that pretty much catches us up for now. It's going to have to- computer time is up!! I'll leave you with a couple more pictures, just for you Nana!
9 Weeks Old
Life is good. We have been so blessed- Sydney is such a good baby, and I try very hard to make sure I don't take that for granted. She & I got out every day last week which was nice. We ran errands, we went to the mall to walk around with another friend & her baby, we went to visit Rob's parents, we met a friend for lunch... It's definitely getting easier to get out and about with her. It also helps that we've gotten on a good schedule, so I'm able to anticipate when Sydney is going to be hungry or tired. I love that she's so laid back and goes with the flow.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaa-le-lu-jah!
Yep- she did it! Sydney slept EIGHT hours last night!! I wish it had been from 11p-7a, but she actually decided to skip her last late-night feeding on her own. I put her down around 8 (and watched her lay there quiet, but awake, for nearly an hour!), and when I got her at 11:30ish to feed her and put her in our room, she wouldn't wake up AT ALL to eat. I tried to "force it" as much as I could, and she was totally uninterested, so I figured we'd see what happened if she didn't eat at that time. And she slept til 5!! If only I'd gone to bed at 9 too!!! She's still asleep now, but I'm about to have to wake her- she's got her two-month check-up this morning.
I'm excited to see her stats this morning, and know exactly how much she's grown.
I'm dreading her shots. =(

January 17 - Two Months
Happy Birthday, Baby Girl! Even though we know you're still a tiny baby, you're such a big girl compared to where you were even one month ago. You're changing so quickly, right before our very eyes.
- I'm guessing you weigh around 11 lbs (I'll update tomorrow after your check-up). You were still wearing some of your newborn clothes up until this past week, but most of your 3 month clothes are starting to fit. They're just a little loose.
- You are a happy girl and you smile all the time! You're in the best mood after you eat and your diaper is changed. When you're really happy you squint your eyes and open your mouth, and I think you're trying to laugh. You're so close, and we can't wait to hear that first giggle!
- You are still a great sleeper. Sometimes you fight sleep and cry and fuss, but a lot of time you will just lay in your bed awake until sleep finally comes. We put a mobile over your bed this week and you love watching it. You don't like silence when you sleep, so we alternate between white noise and music when you're in your room. You are definitely not a morning person and don't like being woken up; you're usually very serious until you're fully awake.You sleep as much as 6.5 hours at a time at night (is that considered sleeping through the night?)
- You're starting to hold your head up by yourself for short periods. You look so big when you do! You still don't like tummy time.
- Your favorite activities are peek-a-boo and laying on your play mat and kicking the toys hanging near your feet.
You are so much fun! We couldn't love you any more!

Wiggle Worm
We've had a good week, and Sydney is doing great. She's sleeping about 6 hours through the night pretty consistently (I probably just jinxed myself by writing that) and that makes everything easier! We're really starting to see her little personality coming out- she's such a happy girl! Even though being a mom is definitely hard, it is SO much fun and I'm having a blast with her.
She has started holding her head up on her own for short lengths of time. You can tell her whole body is getting stronger as she grows... ahh- love those growth spurts! She loves to lay on her back and kick her feet. She's a pretty active little girl, even in her sleep. The past two nights, every time I've gone to get her out of her crib she has turned 90-degrees and is laying sideways in the bed. It's funny to me- she ends up in the craziest positions during her sleep (even when she's swaddled!).
Here are a few pics of her playing, and her weekly portrait with the lamb. Can you believe she's already 8 weeks old?!

Real Quick--
Sydney is in the middle of a growth spurt right now and has been eating like a hungry, hungry little hippo for the past day & a half!! In between eating, she sleeps. And that's pretty much it!
This afternoon I happened to catch her waking up before she had a chance to get fussy, so I carried her over to the couch and wanted to see if I could get her to stay awake and play for a few minutes before she ate again. I was talking to her and tickling her, and asked her if she was hungry and wanted to eat again, and as if she understood me, she raised her little eyebrows and smiled a huge smile, like she was thinking, "Are you kidding? OF COURSE I WANT TO EAT!" I'm sure it was a funny coincidence, but it cracked me up! I so wish I'd had a video camera recording that whole interaction- maybe you had to be there... trust me- it was priceless!
Gotta run- someone is hungry again!

Welcome 2010!
Happy New Year! What? I'm six days late? Oh well- at least I'm still here! I'm not one to make new years resolutions, but over the past five or six years I've made it a tradition to make a "gratitude list" at the start of every year. It's always fun to sit back and think about what I'm thankful for in the past year, and pray with hope about the coming year. I've come up with as many as 100 things one year, but let's be honest- I don't have that much time these days. So here's my top 10...
The Top 10 Things I'm Thankful for in 2009
1. Seriously- is there any question?!? SYDNEY CLAIRE DIXON
This tiny girl was absolutely the biggest and best thing that happened to me all year! The doctors weren't sure it was even a viable pregnancy, so that makes her an even bigger blessing. There are so many reasons I could list explaining why I'm thankful for her-- the smiles, the snuggles, the sweet noises in her sleep, the funny faces, the explosion of love like I've never felt before... So, so thankful!
2. My new understanding of God's love for me
As a result of number 1, I have number 2. To think that the love I have for Sydney is nothing compared to God's love- it's hard to imagine anything stronger. My salvation is new again too; at least, I'm seeing it through a new lens. I love my baby girl more than I can describe, and I am certain I would not be able to sacrifice her for any other person- especially not for people who would reject her and mock her.
3. Rob
2009 was our second full year of marriage. I'm so happy to say that we still feel like we're in the honeymoon stage! I will never forget the expression on his face when the doctor told us that I was pregnant, or the similar look he had the moment Sydney entered the world. I'm lucky to be loved by him. He is my best friend and I couldn't ask for a better husband. (I love you, Pui!)
4. My job at LifeWay Christian Resources
I'm thankful for the opportunity to work for such a great company. In an unsteady economy, many people fell victim to job cuts, even at Lifeway. No one's job was secure, and I was thankful to keep mine. I enjoyed the projects, my co-workers, and the editorial work. I'm happy that I've given it up for 2010 for a new full-time job, and will always look back on my time at LifeWay with a smile.
5. Servpro
Rob's company experienced strong growth last year (in that same struggling economy). We're so thankful for God's provision through Servpro over the past three years.
6. A New Decade of Life
In 2009, I said goodbye to my 20s and embraced 30 with a big grin and a bear hug! In the months leading up to my birthday, I kept waiting for the proverbial dread to sink in, but it never came- I was ready and waiting for 30 and so far it's been a phenomenal year!
7. My Freedom
Rob and I had the chance to travel to Washington DC twice in 2009. I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would, and I developed a deep appreciation for our country and it's brief history. God bless the USA.
8. My Friends
I moved to Nashville in 2007 and had one friend when I came (I moved here to marry him). The older I get, I've realized that deep relationships with girlfriends are not necessarily easy to start. Several friendships grew deeper last year, and I'm thankful that I now have a handful of women I can call true friends.
9. Rock Band
I got a Wii for Christmas last year and Rock Band quickly became my favorite game. Shallow, I know, but it brought me lots of hours of fun this past year!
10. Root Beer and Sonic ice
I'm sure it's because I was pregnant most of the year, but 2009 was the year of Barq's root beer for me. Only Barq's. Especially over Sonic ice. Sometimes blended with ice cream in a float. Now I'm thirsty.
